Screen Shot 2015-04-24 at 22.35.38The 15 year old daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis made her first appearance at Last months Chanel Métiers d’Art show, and although she was always kind of on the scene, since the Chanel event she has caused major media frenzy and is now a part of the insane craze of celebrity obsession. With a photogenic face resembling much like her mothers, Lily was photographed by Dana Boulos who travelled to Depp's hometown of Los Angeles to capture the radiant photos of the teen. In the photos she appears effortlessly beautiful, and although never modelled she appears to be a natural. To accompany the shoot was a small Q&A which shows how she's not much different to other teenage girls, revealing how she likes to watch The Office and Lockdown, her favourite bubble tea flavour (red Thai from Urth Caffé in Los Angeles) and also how she would love to raid Opening Ceremony. She is soon to star alongside her dad in Yoga Hosers ,Kevin Smith's upcoming comdey-horror film, and it is without doubt we will be seeing more of Lily Rose Depp in the near future....

CHLOË SEVIGNY: STILL COOLER THAN EVER

Screen Shot 2015-04-24 at 11.05.08Whether you know Chloë from her modelling/designing work or performances in films such as, Kids, Boys don't cry, American psyco and Gummo ( just to name a few), for years and years she has always been seen as the face of the cool and the alternative. In 1994, a young  Chloë Sevigny, aged just 19, was named "the coolest girl in the world", by the New Yorker, and 21 years later I think she still lives up to that reputation. The new release of her book features hundreds of iconic/never been seen images which look at her life. From her childhood in Connecticut to her as a grungy, hipster teenager, as well as images of her now as a Hollywood trendsetter and actress. From the Polaroids, zine pages, and notes from her personal planners it is made to feel really personal and authentic. The images and style of the book instantly draw my mind to the kind of 'cool kid'  Tumblr pages you can find online, many of which often blog and reblog photos of Chloë everyday. I think it will definitely be a book that will be making its way into my own 'coffee table collection'.

Fashion Revolution Day- #FASHREV #WHOMADEMYCLOTHES

2 years tomorrow will be the anniversary of the devastating Rana plaza building collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Since the horrific event, fashion revolution day was created in honour of the 1133 garment makers that were killed during the catastrophe, and it has now become a day for everybody to reflect and realise the welfare of the workers who make the clothes we wear. It is said to be one of the most fatal garment factory accidents in modern history.
The annual day aims to raise awareness of the true cost of fashion and for those who are interested and involved in creating a more sustainable future in fashion. 71 countries are now involved and people are encouraged to take a selfie showing the label on their clothes and ask the designer or brand #whomademyclothes.
So whether it being wearing a piece of clothing inside out, using the hashtag or attending one of the events happening (check out the website, fashion revolution.org for more info) it is important to make people aware of Fashion Revolution Day #FASHREV #WHOMADEMYCLOTHES

Wanderland: An Hermès exhibition

Wanderland was the witty name that was chosen for the eleven roomed Hermès experience hosted at the Saatchi gallery. Dedicated to the Parisian theme of flânerie ( the French term for strolling or wandering without purpose) the upper floor space of the Chelsea gallery saw an incredible transformation into a series of playful, whimsical and rather surreal set of scenes. The rooms provided an immersive experience for the public,  allowing people to indulge into the brand without having to spend a hefty sum of money.
Pierre-Alexis Dumas on Wanderland: ”It’s not about marketing the brand, it’s more about conveying who we are, something that even children can enjoy, you just need a fresh eye to look at it”.
Within the eleven rooms visitors were plunged into a world of fantasy and taken on journey, with the charming installations created by a range of different contemporary artists. The man behind the set design was Hubert le Gall. Featuring walls inserted with videos, clever projections and an stretch of curiosities, each time you entered a new room you were pleasantly suprised with a different and an exciting piece of the brand.

To accompany the exhibition, a book illustrated by Emmanuelle Pierre was on sale in the store. So if your ever strolling around Kings Road or Sloane square I highly recommend paying a visit. The exhibition will be on display in London until May 2 before moving to Paris in September, Turin, Italy, in December and China next year.

Prada fashion film: A Postman Dreams

When it comes to short fashion films for brands, Prada is definitely one of my favourites.  Not only are the mise-en-scenes visually pleasing, but it is as though the scenes have been taken straight out of a full length indie film, with their clever narratives and alluring characters. Often starring acclaimed actors, such as Lea Seydoux, Helena Bonham Carter and Sir Ben Kingsley.
The newest fashion film to come from Prada is 'A Postman Dream's' ,which presents their Galleria handbag. It was directed by Autumn De Wilde who created a fun, surreal world in a series of five short films,  only three of which have been posted on youtube so far. In an interview with style.com De Wilde shared- “I loved the idea of our hero visiting so many different worlds every day and dreaming up fantastic lives for the people her encounters."
As soon as I watched 'A Postman Dreams' it instantly reminded of a Wes Anderson film, who of course previously directed for Prada in the past (Prada Candy). From the colours used, the symmetry and the precision of shots, it is clear that his work had an influence on the films.  In particular, The Grand Budapest Hotel came straight to mind whilst I was watching.
What I find enjoyable about Prada fashion films is that they don't seem to take themselves too seriously, there is always a hint of humour and wittiness which is done in such a subtle, effortless way.

Sonia Delaunay

IMG_2763I was familiar of Sonia Delaunays work for a while and always admired the vibrant hues of colour, abstraction and the sense of modernity in her work, and so when I found out there was going to be retrospective of her work at the Tate modern I was quick to go and visit.
Who is Sonia Delaunay?
Sonia Delaunay was a French painter and designer who pioneered abstract art, celebrating the modern world of movement, technology and urban life. While some may only recognise her work by the use of geometric shapes on a canvas, she really spanned a much wider variety of creativity such as textiles, fashion, furniture, set design, architecture and advertising. Her marriage with Robert Delaunay, an ambitious artist of the Parisian Avant-garde, came around from a mutual inspiration to colourful compositions. Both artists dealt with the depiction of light and movement and together they found a new theory known as Simultaneism which is the juxtaposition of dynamically contrasting colours and shapes for maximum impact.
The exhibition features early paintings which show the influence of Paul Gauguin and the De Bruke group, as well as textiles and clothes that she had made, and the collaborations with poets, choreographers and manufacturers.  Although some of the work may seem repetitive, it was great to see how she used her talent in a range of different fields. She is shown not just as an artist but also as a businesswoman, as she established her name as a brand and opened her own fashion house. It is clear that she was definitely ahead of her time.
